Fudia Smartt writes about the Gary Lineker BBC Twitter storm in the HR Director
When TV presenter Gary Lineker recently expressed his opinion about the government’s latest immigration policy on Twitter there was strong reaction from the public which led to the BBC being accused of breaching its impartiality rules.
Writing in the HR Director magazine, Employment Law Partner Fudia Smartt discusses whether it is possible for employees to post polarising views on their private social media without bringing their employer into disrepute.
“It has long been recognised that an employee’s conduct, including outside of business hours, can negatively impact an employer and damage its reputation,” further adding: “With the explosion of social media, the ability for an employee’s conduct to damage the reputation of its employer has grown exponentially.”
