Emma Gross writes about bossware in the HR Director magazine

With the increase in remote working, employers have been looking at ways to monitor employee performance and productivity. 

Bossware – software installed on computers to track exactly how employees are utilising their working day, is seen as a beneficial tool that offers useful insights when employees aren’t in the office.

In her article, published in the HR Director magazine, Employment and Data Protection Partner Emma Gross discusses the benefits of the tracking software and also highlights where there could also be cause for concern, stating: “It is crucial to be transparent with employees before installing surveillance software. Indeed, it is often utilised without employee consent and this can have drastic consequences for an employer in terms of breaches of data protection legislation, the GDPR and it will no doubt cause low staff morale, high turnover and reputational damage.”
